Firstly, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is more common than you think and you are not alone. The sudden lack of sunlight, the cold mornings and the natural instinct to retreat into your space battles with what's expected of us in modern society – to get up when it's still dark, work through all of the light hours and keep the same routine all year round. This isn't natural to human nature and our instincts go against everything we're taught. Knowing this should bring you a sense of harmony – there's nothing wrong with you. You're perfect. And society has it's standards set against our natural rhythm. But there are ways to cope with seasonal affective disorder. Here's what helps me on a daily basis:

The cooler months are rolling in and my morning routine is changing from smoothies for breakfast to more porridge oats. I love the creaminess and thickness of porridge as well as it being a blank canvas for me to add any taste I like to. The world becomes my oyster (well, the porridge does anyway). Because it's Winter I chose a delicious seasonal version... the apple pie. Classic, simple and tasty. So here's my recipe:

Minimalism is about slowing down and finding joy in everything around you – okay, this may not be everyone's experience of modern day minimalism, especially if you're in it for the aesthetics, but at the heart of the concept is mindfulness. There's a lot of stigma around the female body, particularly in the way we, as females, are 'suppose' to view ourselves. We're meant to aspire to skinny (but not too skinny) with just the right amount of curves (not too many) in only the right places (careful where) – it's a mind-fuck! The female form, for centuries, has been seen as weak, frail, passive. But we're women – we grow small humans for 9 months, birth them, feed them, carry them... all with our bodies. These strong, resilient bodies are neither frail nor weak. They're made to withstand this life and all it has to throw at us. We're women and we're strong.

If you know me, you know I'm a big lover off all things lists – to-do lists, shopping lists, daily lists, goal lists... the list goes on. But now the list business is expanding to bigger and bolder things; my bucket list. This is always something that's grown inside my head and never made it onto paper. There are things I've always known I've wanted to do, see, achieve in my lifetime but they've been fanciful and put on the back-burner because, well, I've got the rest of my life to do them. And that's just not good enough. I don't want to be waiting around to do the things that I really want to get around to doing... this is life and I'm no longer going to wait around to live it.

Finding your passion isn’t as easy as it sounds… or at least not as easy as we are lead to believe as children. As a teenager I thought it would just land in my lap, as if my passion were something external just waiting for the right time to land. Then, as got a little older and time got a little more crowded with obligations, panic began to set in and slowly but surely I began to feel like I had missed the boat. Queue feelings of inadequacy, regret, and a lost sense of self.

Introverts get a bad wrap. Not the sort of prejudice that brings uprising (which wouldn't happen anyway... it's against the very nature of being introverted), but the quiet, deep-seeded prejudice that comes from a long history of being misunderstood and misrepresented. For as long as I can remember I have been told I'm shy, passive, weak, moody, and all-around not the life of the party. But maybe I don't want to be at your party... or any party for that matter. Maybe I want to be at home with my cat reading a book and eating grapes. Or maybe I want to be sipping coffee with a good friend, talking about the meaning of existence. Or maybe, just maybe, I want to be dancing my ass off at a party but as soon as it comes to socialising or meeting someone new I'd like to call it quits and get out of there as quickly as my legs will take me. Maybe I just charge differently to you, or maybe you're like me and want to set the record straight for the introverts of the world. Either way, this post is for you.

Recently I've been getting comments from people saying that eating a plant-based diet takes time to prepare and cook and is something of a luxury. Well, I'm here to tell you that vegan food is simple, quick, and easy to prepare and can take as little as 3 minutes to get from fridge to plate (and that doesn't even include raw meals that take no time at all).

Life is a balancing act. Some days I feel like superwoman, some I feel like a sloth. Sometimes we go through hurt and disappointment, other times life is a series of elation. Sometimes we're fuelled with energy and light, sometimes all we need is a foot rub and Netflix binge. And although life is inevitably filled with ups and downs, keeping an eye on your priorities and making sure your overall health and wellbeing are taken care of means that the bumps in the road are smaller, shorter, and more easily managed.

Working out sounds like a great idea (and it is) and lots of us imagine ourselves slipping in an hour's workout into our day without much thought. While this sounds idea, it often is too good to be true. While the first few weeks of a workout routine may be met with drive and excitement, soon you'll probably be finding all sorts of excuses not to do it (that's okay, it's human nature). I recently spent the afternoon with someone I hadn't met before. Everything seemed to be going fine (which is a massive relief to the heart-thumping-out-of-my-chest-at-meeting-anyone-new introvert I am), that is until I noticed what I was doing, and had been doing this whole time. I was self-deprecating. It wasn't as obvious as listing reasons he shouldn't be friends with me, but it was definitely in the air and I was certainly not showing my true colours.

The image of living minimally paints a picture of tranquility, peace, and freedom from all things valueless. But the tricky part is getting to that point. How do we detach ourselves from the items that hold sentimental value or we've cathected through the years? As a concept, minimalism seems pretty idyllic and easily-attained, but when it comes down to it, the things we've stash away in our cupboards and boxes have more of a hold on us than we first imagine.

Today is Earth Day. It's a great opportunity to spend a little time thinking about the greater world and all that live here. Being mindful about my daily choices and the impact they have is something that's very important in my life. Everything we do has an impact and so to be aware of that can be very educational, humbling, and empowering. Being sensitive of my impact on the Earth is a lifestyle choice, but it's also great to have a day in the year to maintain focus for 24 hours and celebrate the wonder of the world with... the world.

As complex humans with a multitude of ever-changing goals, habits, and priorities, we often find ourselves in a creative slump. This can be especially true when you're expressing yourself through creative mediums on a weekly or daily basis, like blogging. When creativity drifts, we can easily find ourselves pulling from thin resources – a habitual 'monthly favourites' post, a review of something we don't really feel passionate about, or another copy-and-paste tag post. When this happens, it can be deflating as our previous zeal dwindles.

I love the minimalism movement that's sweeping social media at the moment. I listen to podcasts on it, watch videos about it, read books describing it – I'm a girl obsessed. But just knowing about minimalism isn't the same thing as implementing it. This can manifest it's self in many way throughout your daily life from creating a capsule wardrobe and organising your fridge to devoting more time to your family and friends, hobbies, or alone time. Minimalism is about getting rid of the things in your life that don't really matter in order to free up time and space to do the things that do.

I am a confessed lover off all things skincare; from diet and exercise to lotions and potions I'm fascinated by how our largest organ (our skin) is affected. I've always enjoyed the process of washing my face, especially after a day in London or when I've worn makeup, and after opening up my pores with warm water I feel it's important to keep my skincare simple, gentle, and nourishing.

Oils are a point of contention for a lot of people, often hailed as faultless holy grails and amongst others get a bad rap. For the sceptics out there, let me just start by saying: oils will not make your skin oilier (in fact, they balance your skin oils out by sending signals to your glands saying "there is enough oil... don't send any more!"). Now that's out of the way, we can talk about the good stuff.

Spring is approaching and we've finally got some warm(ish) weather breaking through in the UK – my hands may still be blue but the sun is making it's annual appearance. Not only am I on a sudden impulsive mission to clean every surface in sight, I'm starting to feel the signs of the declutter bug. This time of year always makes me want to refresh and revamp my space, not only for the aesthetics but to defog and recharge my mind, too.

I love to read. It does, however, take a seat on the back-burner when I've got my laptop and good wifi. It's a shame, but I feel this is true of a lot of us. So I am on a little mission to read more. I have recently been on a book binge and have filled my shelves with inspiring books that I cannot wait to plunge into. Having them on display, peering at me from the sidelines is a great reminder to pick them up and delve in.

It's simple design is beautiful and also incredibly practical (don't believe people who say you can't have both). A minimalistic lifestyle isn't just about having a monochrome wardrobe, it's a lifestyle that prioritises space, function, and necessity so that life can run smoothly and attention can be placed on what is important. This extends to every aspect of life... including your handbag.

Sitting at home in front of a luminous screen, whether it be your job or hobby, isn't the best way to make real-life friends. In fact, it can eat into your social time and become quite isolating. Whether it's a cream, powder, mineral, or liquid concealer, I always feel like it just doesn't blend perfectly. There's always a giveaway that screams "I'm trying to cover up a spot!" which often draws more attention than the blemish itself. So I've been doing without concealer for a fair few months now and have, contrary to my predictions, felt more confident in my skin. This has been a very welcome side-effect and has made me make the decision to abolish concealer for the long haul.
